Per
your request I'm providing the shower door pics (before/after). So
I don't gross you out, the before picture doesn't show the crud on
the inside bottom of the previous shower door. That was the driving
force behind getting rid of the old shower door and replacing with
a frameless.
When we picked up
the shower door from the Warrenton glass facility, the door was encased
in a plastic covering and all the corners had rubber pads on them.
To decrease the chances of scratching or 'exploding' glass during
installation, we only removed enough plastic to allow attachment of
the hinges, door handle, and a bare area to get a good grip for lifting
the glass.
Saved about $600
as all the shower door retailers in our area we visited did not provide
customers with glass for customer installation.
One thing I would
recommend for a DIY who uses a drywall screwgun (instead of impact
screwgun) is to back the screw out slightly when you hit too much
resistance. Then reverse to screw back in. I would do this intermittently
until the screw goes in completely. I had the unfortunate experience
of having one of the screwheads snap off leaving the threaded section
of the screw behind the tile. Had to remove(break) the tile to get
the leverage to get the rest of the screw out. After replacing tile,
installation went fairly quickly.
For the amount of
labor involved, I didn't think it was worth paying an additional $600
to install. But, that's just my opinion. I have to hand it to you
guys. You put up with my phone calls no matter how many stupid questions
I asked. I would recommend Wilson Glass to any DIY in my area.
